The Cell

Dimitar started his project to assist biology teaching in schools and to aid further people with an interest in biology - especially in the area of cell biology (cytology). The cell in biology forms the basic unit of which all living things are composed and is the smallest structural unit of living matter that is capable of functioning independently. First observed by the English scientist, Robert Hooke, in the 17th century, shortly after the discovery of the microscope. It was not until the early 19th century, when improvements in microscopy permitted closer observation that their significance became apparent. Now Dimitar has compiled his own "cell" multimedia program for PCs and in so doing has developed his own "cell" encyclopaedia. Using the most up to date material in the field he defines and explains the "cell" - its functions, its discovery and role in modern biology. He draws comparisons between the different types of cells and explains their similarities and differences. Everything connected to the cell organelles is described simply and precisely. And he even built into his programme a test to quiz people on the material found in his program. Each test is itself composed of a range of different levels of difficulty. And each test grades and scores your answers before giving an analysis and comments about the results. The program has a help assistant and can be used in different languages.
