BioMed Camp

BioMed Camp is an annual summer camp for Scandinavian youth and it takes place in Bergen in western Norway. Our objective is to give youth the opportunity to develop and focus their interests in biology and medicine and meet new friends with the same fields of interest.

BioMed Camp lasts for a week, during which we give the 15-18 participants a little peek into the world of research, in biology and medicine in particular. We have researchers associated with the University of Bergen that give lectures about what is going on in their particular field at the moment and the participants are divided into small groups that each do their own miniature research project. The latter is managed by research scholars and gives the participants the opportunity to get to know a researcher and do some practical work in a laboratory. Evenings are spent with different activities that enables everyone to get to know each other and establish new relations.

BioMed Camp is open for youth between the age of 16 and 20 years. Most of the participants are chosen after writing an application and they pay a small fee to participate. Some of the participants win the week as a price in national scientific competitions in Scandinavia. During the week Norwegian is the main language. The team who is organizes the camp is young people studying at university level that do idealistic work for the Norwegian Association of young Scientists in their spare time. BioMedCamp have since the beginning in 1999 had Grieg Foundation and the Norwegian Cancer Society (Kreftforeningen) as their main sponsors and we thank them for giving us the opportunity to realize this project every year.
